Fórum Social Mundial ultrapassou as expectativas

Vice-prefeito de Porto Alegre, secretário extraordinário da Copa e talvez futuro prefeito da Capital. Além disso, José Fortunatti foi um dos mentores do Orçamento Participativo e articulou a volta do Fórum Social Mundial para o seu local de origem. Em breve conversa, Fortunatti fez um balanço desta edição do evento global.

Jornal do Centro - Qual a tua avaliação do FSM 2010?

José Fortunatti - Por estarmos lidando com um Fórum Social Mundial descentralizado, ocorrendo em várias partes do mundo - tendo pontapé inicial em Porto Alegre, ele ultrapassou as nossas expectativas. O número de inscrições chegou a 30 mil. Os eventos culturais estiveram sempre lotados. Além disso, foi um Fórum de muita qualidade. Um detalhe: essa não é uma avaliação só minha. O fato de termos proporcionado um seminário internacional deixou o Fórum com uma qualidade política muito grande. Outra coisa: tivemos muitos jovens em Porto Alegre. Um dos painelistas, o português Boaventura de Sousa Santos, de Portugal, colocou-me que ficou maravilhado com a presença dos jovens nas oficinas, dizendo-me que estava acostumado com a Europa, onde ele não vê jovens interessados pela política. E aqui se surpreendeu com o que viu desde o primeiro dia, na Caminahda: o grande número de jovens e mulheres presentes na política.

Jornal do Centro - Mirando a Copa do Mundo, temos hoje em Porto Alegre condições - táxi, hoteis, transporte público - para receber um evento de porte global?

José Fortunatti - Acredito que Porto Alegre tem se preparado de forma gradativa. Somos a terceira cidade do país a receber eventos internacionais. Acho ainda temos que avançar, principalmente na qualificação de quem trabalha nos hotéis, em táxis, em bares, a respeito do domínio de uma língua estrangeira.
Estamos conversando com o Ministério do Turismo para obtermos recursos para qualificar esses profissionais com cursos de língua estrangeira Não temos ainda parâmetros, mas a ideia é que ainda em 2010 possamos definir isso.

Jornal do Centro - Qual legado o Fórum deixa para Porto Alegre?

José Fortunatti - Em primeiro lugar Porto Alegre volta a ser uma referência internacional. Na quarta-feira, o presidente Lula, ao final de seu discurso, disse que lastimou que o Fórum tinha saído de Porto Alegre. Em segundo lugar, vamos construir o memorial do Fórum em Porto Alegre. Por terceiro, volta a dar destaque para Porto Alegre. Acessei vários jornais do mundo e estávamos sendo notícias em todo o mundo. Le Monde, Financial Times, Times... E por último, demos uma aquecida na economia da cidade. Nessa época as pessoas viajam, fica pouca gente em Porto Alegre. E o Fórum propiciou que a gente desse um novo dinamismo à economia local.

Jornal do Centro - À frente do Fórum, à frente da Copa. José Fortunatti será o prefeito de Porto Alegre durante a Copa do Mundo de 2014?

José Fortunatti - Se isso for possível...se as condições forem possíveis, se o povo de Porto Alegre me eleger em 2012...Sinceramente, tenho muita vontade de continuar tocando este projeto de desenvolver essa cidade cada vez mais.

Jornal do Centro: How do you evaluate the WSF2010?

José Fortunatti - As we are dealing with a decentralized WSF, that is happening in several places in the world- the first step was here in Porto Alegre, t has gone beyond our expectations. The number of inscriptions went to 30 thousand. The cultural events have always been crowded. Besides, it was a forum of much quality. One detail: this is not only my evaluation. The fact of having provided an international seminarylet the forum with a great political quality. Other thing: We have had many youngsters in Porto Alegre. One of the painelists, the Portuguese Boaventura de Souza Santos told me that he got amazed with the presence of young people in thge workshops, and added that he was not used to see young people in Europe interested in politics. Here he got surprised with what he has seen since the first day during the walk: a great number of youngsters and women present in politics.

Jornal do Centro: Having our sight on the World Cup, do we have nowadays, conditions - public transport, hotels - to receive a global scale event?

José Fortunatti - I believe that Porto Alegre has been´preparing gradually. We are the third city of our country that receives international events. We still have to go forward mainly in the qualification of people who work in hotels, taxis, pubs, copncerning to the domain of a foreign language. We have been talking with the Board of Tourism (Ministério do Turismo) to obtain resources to qualify these professionals with foreign language courses. We do not have parameters yet, but the idea is that still in 2010 we will be able to define this.

Jornal do Centro - What kind of legacy does the Forum leave to Porto Alegre?

José Fortunatti - First of all Porto Alegre turns to be an international reference. On Wednesday, President Lula, at the end of his speech, regreted that the Forum had left Porto Alegre. Second, we are going to build The Forum Memorial in Porto Alegre. Third, Porto Alegre is in evidence again. I have accessed the newspapers on the net and I have realized that Porto Alegre is being news all around the world: Le Monde, Financial Times, Times ... and last, we have given a warm to the economy of the city. At this time of the year people usually travel, few people stay in the city. The Forum has provided the opportunity of giving a new dynamism to the local economy.

Will José Fortunatti be the Mayor of Porto Alegre during the World Cup of 2014?

José Fortunatti - If it is possible...if conditions are possible, if people of Porto Alegre elects me in 2012...Sincerely, I am willing to continue with this project of developing Porto Alegre every time more.
